Who loves shopping? I guess all of you will agree that we all love shopping and for that very reason let me take you to a destination known to be as the Shopping Capital of the Middle East, Dubai.

Dubai celebrates to shopping festivals that millions of tourists are visiting every year. We have the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) and the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) . Aside from the festivities, Dubai also has numerous remarkable shopping centers catering to all types of shoppers.


Dubai Mall is the world's largest shopping, leisure and entertainment destination. It is home to just about every major fashion brand in the world. 440,000 square feet Fashion Avenue comprising high and mid-fashion pays homage to haute couture. Dubai Mall has a total of 1200 shops and features the world’s largest Gold Souk with 220 retailers, Fashion Catwalk Atrium, Fashion Island Avenue, 70 stores dedicated to haute couture, Galeries Lafayette Department stores, Oasis Fountain waterfall, Waterfront Atrium, SEGA Republic, KidZania, a 22 screen Cineplex, The Grove, 160 food and beverage options, etc.

The mall of the Emirates is located in Al Barsha, is the second largest mall in Dubai and third in the Middle East. It opened in 2005 and features a fourteen-screen movie theatre, a gaming arena, variety of stores, a drama theatre and the first indoor ski slope in the Middle East and the World’s largest indoor ski area.

Dubai Festival City is a large residential, business and entertainment development in the Dubai and is known as the city within a city. It showcases an exciting selection of prestigious retailers, an international gourmet culture and a world-class entertainment retreat. It has over 600 shops including 25 flagship shops, over 100 restaurants, cafés and bistros, 12 screen grand cinema complexes, bowling center and a vast entertainment center.

Deira City Center is the Dubai’s first large scale mix-used shopping destination, complete with retails shops, restaurants, entertainment facilities and hotel. It opened in 1995 and features around 370 retail shops and several entertainment facilities like the Magic Planet, Vox Cinemas, etc. Deira City Center has an average annual footfall of over 19 million and still remains as
one of the region’s most
visited destinations for both
residents and tourists.

Ibn Battuta Mall is the world’s largest themed shopping mall featuring 275 retails shops and 50 restaurants and food outlets, 21 cinemas including the UAE’s only IMAX Theater. It was uniquely designed to celebrate the travels of the famous Arabic Explorer Ibn Battuta. The mall consists of 6 courts named after the countries and regions that Ibn Battuta had visited, these are China, India, Persia, Egypt, Tunisia and Andalusia.

Mirdif City Center is a newly opened shopping center in Dubai, which was opened to the public in March 2010. It is the same as the size of Mall of the Emirates, with 430 retail outlets, numerous restaurants and cafes, 10 screen cinemas, a Magic Planet entertainment zone, which has an indoor sky diving facilitycalled “iFly” and an indoor 5-a-side football pitches and etc.

Mercato Mall is the first and only Renaissance themed shopping mall in the Middle East which opened in 2002 located in Jumeirah. It has combination of Tuscan and Venetian architecture. Mercato captures Italian, French and Spanish flavours and artistic characteristics. It has 120 shops to choose from, a fine dining restaurant, several food outlets and cinemas.

Burjuman Center is located in Bur Dubai and is considered as one of the oldest shopping malls in the UAE.

Dubai Marina Mall which opened in December 2008 is a shopping and lifestyle destination located at the most famous waterfront development in Dubai Marina. It boasts for its 7-storey Gourmet Tower dedicated to world class cuisines. It has more or less 160 retails stores, cinemas and a nice panoramic view of Dubai Marina.

Reef Mall, a small shopping center located in Deira has around 50 stores for home furnishings and furniture, ladies and men’s fashion, babies and kid’s fashion and restaurants.

Al Ghurair City also known as Al Ghurair Centre is a mix use development project that includes a residential, commercial and shopping complex located in Deira and is one of the oldest shopping centre in Dubai. There is an ongoing expansion which is projected to be opened by early 2012.

Dubai Outlet Mall, a shopping mall located along Dubai-Al Ain. It opened its door to the public in August 2007. Its features an ice-rink, several food and beverage outlets and around 800 retail shops. It is the only outlet concept mall in the Middle East where shoppers can get from 30%-90% discounts on majority of the products in 240 stores.

Looking for budget shopping, Karama Center is the place to be. It has everything a shopper is looking for at very affordable prices. It has shops for kids, ladies and men’s clothing, shoes and accessories, electronics, gadgets and their accessories, perfumes, food stall and shops, etc.


Visit the Gold Souk in Deira and be awed with the vast quantity of gold totaling to more or less 10 tons being displayed in its narrow streets. The area has more or less 300 gold retailers. Gold is being sold at a lesser rate and can even haggle for a much bigger discount.

For those who love spices and cooking, visit the Spice Souk in Deira which is adjacent to the Gold Souk. The souk sells variety of fragrances and spices used in Arab and South Asian cuisines. It also sells textiles, rugs and carpets at reasonable price.
